Goosefoot Continues Its COVID-19 Pivot

March 9, 2021

Goosefoot adjusts its grant programs, community giving, workshops, and relationship with tenants to adjust to current needs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Community Grant Program
In March 2020, Goosefoot suspended our grant application program, diverting those funds directly to local non-profits addressing food security challenges in our community. As the need for food access increased in the COVID-19 pandemic, Good Cheer Food Bank, Island Senior Resources, and Readiness to Learn were our grant recipients.

Moving into 2021, local anti-racism efforts have emerged priority funding need. Our work has focused on educating ourselves about racism which has led us to the conclusion that we must strive to dismantle the effects of systemic racism in our own community.

Funding efforts have also broadened to include local food resiliency—not just food insecurity—in our small island community. We see clearly the importance of strengthening local food production and access for everyone in our community. Goosefoot is also in regular contact with the three organizations addressing food insecurity listed above to ensure they have the resources they need

Goose Grocer Makes it Easy for Shoppers to Support Local Charities

  • Sign up for an Advantage card and donate your points at the register to either Good Cheer (360-221-0130) or Island Senior Resources (360-321-1600). Just enter their phone number and help them increase their buying power for food as they keep up with increased demand.
  • As you check out at the register, ask your cashier to “round up” for the Change for Charity program. Round up your total to the nearest dollar, with the change going to a different South Whidbey non-profit each month.
