Goosefoot Supports WIGC & R.A.C.E.

March 9, 2021

Goosefoot continues its COVID-19 pivot by giving grants local organizations focused on food security and racial diversity.

Goosefoot Supports the Whidbey Island Grown Cooperative (WIGC)

A $15,000 grant will support WIGC’s efforts to support local farmers and food producers, including establishing a wholesale food hub to more easily bring local produce and food products to grocery stores, restaurants, and institutions both on and off Island. Their new Bulk Buyers Club offers Whidbey growers and producers the opportunity to buy feed, fertilizer, and much more collectively to lower their costs.

R.A.C.E. Receives Grant from Goosefoot

Real Actions Create Equity (R.A.C.E.) received a $19,000 grant from Goosefoot in January 2021, which will support staffing for their Youth of Color Collective (YOCC) program and for the purchase of racially inclusive reading materials that portray and celebrate diversity.

R.A.C.E—a project of Readiness to Learn— was formed in the spring of 2017 to address racial and ethnic bias in the South Whidbey community, particularly within but not limited to, our educational system. Led by Kenesha Lewin, their goal is to raise local awareness of the existence of systemic inequity and create safe spaces for people impacted by these injustices.
