The Liberation of Color II: Work by Ian Joseph Jackson

Goosefoot Community Fund is pleased to present The Liberation Of Color II, Ian Joseph Jackson’s second solo art exhibition—opening on Martin Luther King Day 2024 and on view through Black History Month.

Through a wide spectrum of color and style, Jackson’s vibrant, timely work captures the emotion and complexity of the encounter between the historical, the archetypal, and the human—sometimes embodied in images of figures from the US civil rights movement adjoined by mystical figures from spiritual and religious traditions worldwide. At the heart of Jackson’s art is his desire to connect the dots, sometimes literally, between the soul journeys reflected by each of the figures in his work.

The artist, also known by the artistic moniker Portals of Creation, is a New York-born, LA-raised painter, writer, composer, singer, dancer, and student of holistic health based in Freeland, WA. His art and writings reflect a wide array of cultural influences, from liberation movement history, “Eastern” and “Western” metaphysics, roots in the Judeo-Christian tradition, to the study of consciousness. Jackson graduated NYU magna cum laude with a degree in Religion and Philosophy.
