On Whidbey Island, Earth Day has expanded to encompass the whole month of April. Collectively known as Whidbey Earth and Ocean Month, activities appeal to a wide range of interests, ages, and backgrounds. This year’s calendar offers more events than ever, including a return to a kickoff event to launch the whole month.
Participating organizations with Earth & Ocean Month activities include the Greening Congregations Collaborative, Orca Network, Sno-Isle Libraries, Sound Water Stewards, South Whidbey Tilth, Whidbey Audubon Society, Whidbey Camano Land Trust, Whidbey Watershed Stewards, and more.

The Mystery of Owls with Izzy Edwards (Thursday, April 10 at 7 PM): Have you ever been curious about owls? If you would like to learn more about these mysterious nocturnal birds, please join Whidbey Audubon at the Coupeville Recreation Hall. Do a deep dive into owl photography and life history with Izzy Edwards. Follow along as Izzy shares her experiences of how she began her photographic/naturalist journey and what led her to become immersed in the world of owls.
Rhythms of Nature IV (Sunday, April 13 at 2 PM): Whidbey’s Saratoga Orchestra is pleased to announce its fourth annual “Rhythms of Nature – Percussion, Prose, and Poetry” program at Greenbank Farm. Admission is free, with donations warmly appreciated.
Emergency Preparedness Conference (Saturday, April 19 at 9 AM): Join South Whidbey Fire / EMS and partners at South Whidbey High School in bringing our community together to inspire collaboration and create high functioning, resilient and disaster prepared neighbors on South Whidbey.
The Whidbey Island Aquifer (Tuesday, April 22 at 5 PM): Whidbey Watershed Stewards will be hosting a presentation and discussion on the Whidbey Island aquifer.
Guided walks, work parties, and additional lectures and gatherings will take place throughout Whidbey during the month of April.
