Bookkeeper

Position: 40-60 hours / month
Ability to work in person at Goosefoot’s offices a minimum of one day a week (Monday or Tuesday); additional work can be done remotely

Position Overview:

About Goosefoot

Goosefoot was founded in 1999 to bring Bayview area neighbors together to nurture a sense of place and community, preserve the rural landscape, and enhance local commerce.  Over the past two decades it has grown into a complex enterprise with four affiliated entities, conducting commercial property management, providing a community grocery store, and nurturing workforce housing initiatives.  Collectively there is over $15 million in assets under management, although the day-to-day fiscal management of Bayview Grocer Inc. is conducted by an outside firm.

Goosefoot Community Fund is organized as a Type 1 Supporting Organization under IRS 501(c)3, and provides funding and programmatic support to other organizations through grants and other programs, including fundraising for specific programmatic purposes.  As of 2022, it will be a recipient of federal grant funding, with associated reporting requirements to the USDA, as well as private lending institutions.

Goosefoot currently has 10 employees and enjoys support and oversight from an engaged Board of Directors and a Finance-Operations Committee that each meet monthly.  An outside accounting firm reviews and prepares annual financial statements and prepares all federal tax returns.

Position Purpose:

Goosefoot is hiring a part-time bookkeeper who is comfortable dealing with complex financial data. Under direction by the Finance Director, the bookkeeper will help Goosefoot in recording and maintaining all financial transactions, performing reconciliations, assisting the Finance Director in preparing financial statements and closing books, running payroll, collecting debts and making payments.

Principal Responsibilities:

The following duties are intended to be representative of the work performed and is not all-inclusive.

  • Overall responsibility for data entry into accounting system and integrity of accounting system data
  • Accounts Payable: Process bills and prepare checks for signature
  • Payroll:  Process payroll and related liability reporting
  • Accounts Receivable:  Prepare monthly tenant invoices and statements, post cash receipts to tenants, grants etc.
  • Maintain a balanced general ledger
  • Reconcile all bank and credit card accounts
  • Prepare financial materials for external auditors for annual review
  • Assist the Finance Director with reporting and regulatory requirements

General Qualifications:

This position requires four years of non-profit bookkeeping experience, including the use of classes and customers/jobs functions within QuickBooks software.  Certifications in Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, and completed coursework in business math and other related education preferred.  Associate’s or higher degree in accounting, finance, or business administration a plus.

Ability to work at Goosefoot administrative offices at Bayview Corner a minimum of one day/week (Monday or Tuesday), required, additional work can be done remotely.  Ability to manage workload that may vary throughout the year from 40 to 60 hours per month, depending on deadline management.
