Position Overview:

About Goosefoot

Goosefoot Community Fund is a not-for-profit, mission-driven community development organization on South Whidbey Island that works to promote essential solutions to pressing needs in a variety of ways, including: support for local economic development; healthy food systems; affordable housing; and opportunities for community connection through our art shows and street dances. Goosefoot operates using a non-profit/for profit business model, meaning we own commercial properties, including The Goose Community Grocer, the net profits of which fund Goosefoot’s operations and investments in community-based programs. We also provide other quality commercial retail and office space at Bayview Center and at Bayview Corner. We have a dedicated team of nine staff, and we are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support our financial operations and help us maintain transparency and excellence in service.

Position Purpose:

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the financial operations of our property management companies and our non-profit programs as well as those of Island Roots Housing, a not-for-profit development company that grew out of Goosefoot’s programs and is focused on adding affordable housing to our community.  This role requires strong technical accounting skills, particularly in fixed asset accounting, tenant management, company consolidation and report development. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Manage fixed asset records, including capitalization, depreciation, and disposals.
  • Process and reconcile tenant billing and lease-related transactions.
  • Track and report donor pledges and contributions in accordance with non-profit accounting standards.
  • Manage payroll.
  • Drive monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings and consolidation.
  • Prepare financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support Finance Director in budgeting, forecasting, and audit processes.
  • Support Finance Director in grant financial performance reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with facility managers and program staff to ensure financial accuracy.

General Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required)
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in property management or non-profit sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Fixed asset accounting
    • Tenant billing systems
    • Pledge and fund accounting
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. Quickbooks, Yardi, Sage Intacct) and experience with QuickBooks Online.
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with financial reporting tools.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
