Monthly Readings & Resources from Goosefoot’s Anti-Racism Task Force: The White Moderate

We are presenting only two readings this month. There is much in the first direct and powerful article to reflect on for anyone reading it, even though its primary audience are those leading and working in non-profit organizations.

Whatever you feel when reading this—resonance, shame, anger, sadness—try to ask yourself “why?” Then go back and re-read the article excerpted from Martin Luther King’s Letter from a Birmingham Jail. Does author Vu Le’s list make more sense to you or not? Also, think about Dr. King’s concerns in light of the increase in racially motivated violence and discrimination happening in our country today. Think about the attempts at voter suppression in a number of states, where BIPOC voters would be disproportionately affected. Think about the 3 Black people fatally shot in Jacksonville by a white man last week in a racially-motivated incident—not to mention the dozens of other such murders since the beginning of the year.
