On Becoming an Anti-Racist Organization

Ten months ago, Goosefoot began taking steps towards becoming an anti-racist organization.
Ten months ago, Goosefoot began taking steps towards becoming an anti-racist organization. Collectively and individually we are educating ourselves on racism, systemic racism, and the need for change. We are learning more about our own community on South Whidbey. And we’re learning more about ourselves.
During this time of learning, we have also focused on action:
- In February 2021, Goosefoot gave a grant of $19,000 to Real Action Creates Equity (R.A.C.E). The funding will go towards serving BIPOC South Whidbey students through R.A.C.E.’s Youth of Color Collective and the purchase of racially inclusive reading materials that portray and celebrate diversity.
- A Commitment to Racial Equity Statement for Goosefoot was voted on this month by our Board of Directors.
- Our Anti-Racism Task Force, comprised of board and staff members, directs these activities and will ensure that both anti-racist education and actions continue.
